Dear Docteur Mou, 

It was wonderful seeing you the other day at my checkup. You had asked how my cats were doing, and I would like to say, they are doing excellent, and they look forward to seeing you. You had mentioned that you would be willing to look in on them if I ever take a weekend away, I believe. I hope it's not too much to ask, but since you mention it, I have been meaning to visit my grandchildren in Nice, but have been to afraid to leave Socks and Whiskers alone. 

We can discuss particulars in the future, but I wanted to give you a rough outline of what to expect while Socks and Whiskers are under your care. You should know that they are firmly housecats. They are not allowed to play outside. Furthermore, they are only allowed to watch two hours of television in the evenings, but that is extended if it's the Bachelor or Bachelorette finale. They take four meals a day, and they will not eat unless being watched. If possible, you should dine with them. They are served on the good china in the cabinet. And, you should feel free to use the standard plates in the cupboard. Whiskers has rheumatism, so enjoys a massage every morning. If he becomes lethargic by noon, you will know that you were not thorough enough in the massage. Socks, while she doesn't appreciate being handled, will get jealous, so I would recommend spending as much time reading to Socks as you did massaging Whiskers. Let's say, an hour or so? 

Socks and Whiskers appreciate a clean toilet and will not use the bathroom unless the litter box is perfectly tidy. I trust that you will provide them this small comfort? A cleaning after every feeding should suffice. 

While they are perfectly clean and do a good job taking care of themselves, I must admit they do tend to shed. Their satin beds with the feather pillows can get a bit messy with their fur. As you can imagine, they get insomnia and have even been known to have nightmares if their beds aren't made up to their high standards and are free from fur. On the other hand, the noise from the vacuum can be very jolting in the quiet hours of the evening, so if you could be so kind as to tidy up their sleeping quarters by hand, Socks, Whiskers, and I would be eternally grateful. 

Thank you again for your kind offer to look in after my pets while I'm awhile. I hadn't seen you since my last checkup, and I was surprised and delighted that a doctor of your caliber would take the time out of her busy schedule to spend a week or two with my precious ones. 

I will send further instructions when I have more time. I assume you are an accomplished chef, but you can understand, Socks and Whiskers are very demanding when it comes to cuisine. Recipes to follow.

C'était merveilleux de vous voir l'autre jour à mon examen. Vous aviez demandé comment allaient mes chats, et je peut vous dire, ils vont très bien et ils ont hatte de vous voir. Vous aviez dit que vous seriez prêt  à s'occuper d'eux si jamais je prenais un week-end, je crois. J'espère que ce n'est pas trop vous demander, mais j'ai eu l'intention de faire une petite visite à Nice pour voir mes petits-enfants, mais j'ai eu peur de laisser Chaussette et Moustache tous seuls.  

Nous pouvons discuter les détails bientôt, mais je voulais vous donner une petite idée  à quoi vous pouvez vous attendre quand Chaussette et Moustache seront sous votre garde. Vous devriez savoir qu'ils sont fermement chats de maison, et ils ne sont pas autorisés à jouer à l'extérieur. En plus, ils ne sont autorisés à regarder que deux heures de télévision chaque soir, mais ca peut être prolongé en cas de finale du Bachelor ou Bachelorette, leurs émissions préférèes, Ils prennent quatre repas par jour, et ils ne mangent que si ils sont surveillés. Si possible, vous devriez dîner avec eux. Ils adorent la bonne porcelaine dans l'armoire. Et vous, s'il vous plait, ne vous génez pas d'utiliser les assiettes de tous les jours dans le placard. Moustache a des rhumatismes, donc il profite d'un massage chaque matin. S'il est léthargique à midi, vous saurez que vous n'étiez pas assez profond dans le massage. Chaussette, même si elle n'aime pas être touchée, sera jalouse, donc je vous conseille de passer autant de temps à lire à  Chaussette que vous avez fait le massage a Moustache. Disons, une heure ou deux?

Chaussette et Moustaches préfèrent des toilettes propres et utilisent une litière parfaitement rangé. J'espère que vous pouvez leur donner ce petit confort? Un nettoyage après chaque repas suffira.

Bien sur ils sont parfaitement propres et font un bon travail en prenant soin d'eux-mêmes, mais je dois admettre qu'ils ont tendance à perdre leur poils. Leurs lits en satin avec des oreillers en plumes peuvent devenir un peu sale avec leur fourrure. Comme vous pouvez l'imaginer, ils pourraient avoir une insomnie et même avoir des cauchemars si leurs lits ne sont pas faits a leurs standards élevés. D'autre part, le bruit de l'aspirateur peut être très bruillants dans les heures calmes de la soirée, alors si vous pouviez avoir la gentillesse de nettoyer leurs lits à la main, Chaussette, Moustache, et moi-même vous en seront éternellement reconnaissant.

Merci encore pour votre aimable invitation à vous occuper de mes chats. Je ne vous avais pas vu depuis mon dernier examen, et j'ai été surpris et ravis qu'un médecin de votre calibre prenne le temps dans un horaire chargé de passer une semaine ou deux avec mes trésors.

Je vous enverrai des instructions supplémentaires quand j'aurai plus de temps. Je suppose que vous êtes un chef accompli, mais vous pouvez comprendre comment Chaussettes et Moustaches sont très exigeants du point de vue de la cuisine. Recettes à suivre donc.
